Daisuke Matsuzaka had some lingering soreness from his last start and did not feel 100% last night. He spoke about it after the game:
“It’s tough to say how much effect there was because it’s really a matter of my personal feel, so, I don’t think I can describe. I think, looking back on it, yes, there was an effect. I don’t think that’s the most important issue. It might have looked like I got out of those (first and fourth) innings OK, but in my mind, I still felt there were still adjustments I needed to make. It’s been a long time since my body didn’t cooperate like this. I had to rely a lot on my upper body. My velocity was there but there was no movement or bite to my pitches, not to mention any command.”
This does not look like a trip to the DL but he could end up missing a start. Josh Beckett is going to throw a side session today and should come off of the DL on June 3 which will not be in time to fill in for Dice-K. Matsuzaka’s next start would likely be on June 2 against the A’s.
