Discussing the Blues-Bruins trade rumors

By now you’ve probably heard the rumors suggesting the Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues are evaluating a potential trade. While these reports fall strictly under the “rumor” label, it has been confirmed that both sides have been closely following a few key players. For the Blues, it’s believed T.J. Oshie, Alexander Steen or Patrik Berglund may be involved in a trade while Milan Lucic’s name keeps resurfacing on Boston’s end.

Before going any further, no one know exactly which pieces would be involved, but Jeremy Rutherford of the Post-Dispatch detailed that the two sides are in close talks.

As people who read my coverage know, I don’t get into rumors often. But when I believe there is something brewing behind the scenes, I don’t have a problem touching on it. There has been plenty of speculation involving the Blues and Bruins and believe there is definitely something being discussed. Doug Armstrong had a credential waiting for him last night in Minnesota, where the Bruins playing. He was not there (he’s with the Blues in LA), but the fact that he was credentialed leads you to believe he had intentions of being there. The NHL holiday trade freeze begins tomorrow and I don’t expect anything to happen before then. But I will continue to monitor this after the freeze lifts Dec. 27. I’ve mentioned previously that I am hearing the names of one or two top-six forward being dealt by the Blues. I would not be surprised if one or more of the names you mentioned are involved. As far as what the Blues could get in return, I keep hearing Milan Lucic’s name possibly being moved out of Boston.

Couple of things to point out here. Blues fans may realize Oshie hasn’t been as good this year as he has been in previous years, but they’d freak out if the team dealt him to a new club. On the flip side, very few people would miss Berglund and Steen falls somewhere in the middle depending on the return.

As for the player mentioned from Boston – Lucic – that’s a player Blues fans should have no interest in acquiring. Should the Blues deal away one of their top-6 forwards, that would theoretically mean Lucic would slide in. Is that an upgrade? Hardly. Lucic is a strong, physical player, but he hardly improves the team’s offense and he wouldn’t answer any of the questions the Blues need to address.

Will the Bruins make a trade with the Blues? Will Oshie, Berglund, Steen or Lucic be involved? We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s clear there’s more than a casual conversation being had between the two sides.
