Day 13 of 2013 US Open was very interesting. We had four great players in Men’s Singles Semis, all of them got there for a reason and they battled for two final spots.
After more than 4 hours of play, world’s best tennis player Novak Djokovic was able to take down Stanislas Wawrinka in five set thriller (2-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4).
Swiss was controlling this match in first three sets. He was very dominate in the first set, taking it without too much trouble 6-2. Novak was serving very poorly, especially on his second serve where, in the 1st and 2nd set, he won just 9% of his second serve points. Even though he didn’t play very well in that second set, he was able to take it in the tiebreak and level the score.
Serb started to serve much better in third set but Wawrinka has broken his opponent in 8th game of 3rd set and he took 2-1 lead. There was no more room for Djokovic to make mistakes and he turned it up in fourth set, breaking Swiss early and took the match into 5th set. While he didn’t win the epic 21-minute slugfest on Wawrinka’s serve in fifth, the game seemed to take some of the starch out of the Swiss. Wawrinka held it to go up 2-1 in the fifth but Djokovic won next three games and eventually won that 5th set.
This will be 4th consecutive and 5th overall US Open final for Novak Djokovic. So far, he has won it all in 2011, but stopped in final 3 times (2007 ,2010, 2012).
