The Clippers have officially reached terms on a contract extension for head coach Doc Rivers, who had one year remaining on his contract. During his tenure in LA, the Clippers have amassed a record of 259-151, which is the fifth-best record in the NBA during that span.
After being the coach and president of operations for his first four years with the club, Doc stepped down to focus on just being a coach last season. Rivers is the winningest coach in Clippers franchise history by both total victories and winning percentage. Despite coaching an NBA-high 37 different starting lineups this season, the injury-riddled Clippers remained in playoff contention until the final homestand of the season, finishing with a 42-40 record.
Entering his 20th season as an NBA head coach, Rivers is one of just two active coaches (Greg Popovich being the other) to win at least 800 games. Throughout his time in Los Angeles, Rivers has been the subject of both praise and scrutiny. His team has performed incredibly well in the regular season, but have failed to make their mark in the postseason.
With a tremendous amount of roster overhaul this season (and potentially more to come this offseason with DeAndre Jordan hitting the open market), Doc Rivers displayed that he is still the right man for the job. The Clippers are entering a new era, but one thing is for certain, Doc Rivers is not going anywhere.
