Doc’s son doing alright vs. International competition

Austin  We all know the one thing luring Doc Rivers away from the Celtics is the call of his family.  And while all of his kids are tremendous athletes, the one with the most promise is clearly his son Austin.  The kid is already one of the top college prospects in America (ESPN ranks him #2), and he's proving that by putting on a good showing for the Team USA in the FIBA Under-18 tournament currently under way in San Antonio.

Austin had 13 points and 3 assists in a win over Argentina.  And a glance at the leaders through 3 games shows Austin is 7th in scoring (15.7), 3rd in 3 pointers made (3 per game) and 3 pt % (52.9), and 5th in steals (2.0 per game).

He's in the class of 2011… so he's going into his senior year.  I'm sure Doc wants to start going to some of these high school games and be part of the whole recruiting process (which has long since begun… but you know what I mean).  And then next year I'll bet he's a 1-and-done kinda player.  So really, Doc's got a couple of years to appreciate this kid before he's either coaching him in the pros… or coaching against him.

No wonder the call is so strong.
