Left-hander Rich Hill is returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers on a three-year contract, the team announced Monday.
Andy McCullough of The Los Angeles Times reported the deal is worth $48 million. That’s quite the pay raise for Hill, whose career earnings were just over $9 million, according to Baseball-Reference.
Considered by many to be the top free-agent starting pitcher this offseason, Hill combined to go 12-5 with a 2.12 ERA in 20 starts in 2016. He went 3-2 in six starts for the Dodgers after getting traded from the Oakland Athletics at the non-waiver deadline.
The Dodgers, Yankees, Rangers and Astros had been reported to be the four main teams interested in Hill, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports Network.
Hill turns 37 next season, but the Dodgers must believe he still has a few good years left to give him a new deal.
