No arguing with Kravitz here. I was pulling for Kanaan.
All anybody knew for sure was that Franchitti had the best car by a country mile. He grabbed the lead early and rarely let go. He called his car “a fast handful,” noting that while it danced like Helio Castroneves doing the samba, it hauled serious you-know-what.
His biggest concern, outside of fuel and Wheldon near the end, was the hard-charging Kanaan. Kanaan went from 33rd to second in what seemed like a heartbeat. Was there ever a question he’d find a way to insinuate himself into this race? But with four laps to go, Kanaan heard the words he didn’t want to hear: “Fuel! Fuel!” And his chance at a miracle result was done, although the effort won’t be forgotten.
“Until he pitted, I never took my eye off him because he can always surprise you,” Franchitti said. “He didn’t get the result that he deserved, but to have gone from last to second was cool. He will win one of these races one day. You watch.’
