Domonic Brown to open up the season on DL

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim v Philadelphia Phillies

With Opening Day only six days away, the Philadelphia Phillies 25-man roster is starting to take shape. But one player will miss some time due to an injury. According to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said that outfielder Domonic Brown will begin the season on the 15-day disabled list with left Achilles tendinitis.

This is not good news for Brown, as he needs to perform well this season after coming off a disappointing 2014 season. Brown was diagnosed with left Achilles tendinitis on March 19 so the Phillies need to find a replacement for him. Currently, Ben Revere will be playing in left field, while Odubel Herrera will be playing in center field as he is having a strong spring.

With no Brown for the foreseeable future, the Phillies have many options that they could take a look at states Zolecki. He says that Jordan Danks, Grady Sizemore, Brian Bogusevic, Jeff Francoeur, and Russ Canzler are all options. In Zolecki’s eyes, he believes that Danks might be the favorite saying that he is already on the 40-man roster and plays the best defense out of all the candidates.

If I was the Phillies, I would choose Sizemore to start in right field despite him hitting .158 this spring. But regardless, I think it will come down to either Danks or Sizemore.
