Keyon Dooling says the Celtics are aware of the “Beat the Heat”
t-shirts sold by the NBA.com store.
Rest assured this information has been shared in the Celtics locker room, though Keyon Dooling chose to respond maturely this morning.
“Oh yeah I saw it last night, (but) I think that’s a part of the game. I’m sure there were some Boston Celtics Eastern Conference championship shirts made up if we would have won at our home venue,” said the Celtics guard. “So it’s a part of it. It is what it is. Extra motivation.”
Dooling likened it to a famous story from the 1969-70 Finals, which does indeed have a parallel with the current Celtics team.
“We run a lot of parallels with the 69-70 team. We heard about the great story in the Forum when they had balloons at the top and (Bill) Russell and those guys saw that and used it as motivation,” said Dooling. “I even heard that Russell went as far as telling Jerry West, See those balloons over there? They’re not coming down tonight, not on our watch. So we have a little extra motivation.”
The NBA has removed the shirts. But wouldn’t it be great if KG put one on during the post game celebration?
