The Sox came into this game hoping for a win to take the series before heading out on the road. The Sox had lefty Felix Doubront on the mound who has looked nothing but impressive in the last few months against the Diamondbacks Brandon McCarthy. Doubront continued his trend and blanked the DBacks offense for 7 strong innings for his 8th win of the season.
Felix Doubront looked sharp from the first inning and never let up. Both Doubront and McCarthy kept the game scoreless until the 5th inning when the Sox finally got on the scoreboard. Ellsbury hit a sac fly to score Drew and then Pedey hit an RBI double. Sox 2-0. They also knocked McCarthy out of the game. The Sox had the bases loaded with one out, but were unable to add to their lead. They did go to a 4-0 lead in the 6th inning when Ellsbury and Victorino both hit RBI singles. All the while Felix Doubront just kept pitching scoreless inning after scoreless inning. Doubront pitching line for the night was 95 pitches, 7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB and 5 Ks. That's pretty gosh darn good.
Matt Thornton came out in relief in the 8th inning, but was unable to record an out before he left the game with an oblique injury. Drake Britton came into the inning and continued to impress since being called up. Britton came in with one on and after giving up a single there were two batters on base and no outs. Britton pitched around the trouble and left the mound without allowing a run to score. Koji Uehara came out for the 9th inning even though it was not a save situation. Koji pitched his usual scoreless inning to notch down the win and the series for the Sox.
