GM Doug Melvin’s wish to get something for one of the extra OF’s or C’s on the Crew’s roster may have taken a bit of a hit over the last 24 hours.
The Rockies released C Javier Lopez earlier today…while Lopez would seem to have lost his stroke, teams may be more inclined to give the one-time All-Star a look versus having to give up something for Mike Rivera or J.D. Closser.
Likewise, Jeromy Burnitz “retired” from baseball…while Burnitz, the former Brewer, seemingly would not be a first-choice among a team needing an OF any longer, “Burny” would likely give up retirement for a chance (not to mention the $25,000+ per month paycheck) to play again. However, since none of the 30 teams bit on Burny, odds are teams are feeling pretty good about their outfield situation…not good for Melvin.
