I had the privilege of picking for the Saints at 13 in Draftseason’s 2015 all bloggers NFL mock draft. If you follow the link you’ll see that this mock didn’t go that well in terms of who I hoped would fall. With Fowler, Shelton, Beasley and Ray all gone – I decided to go with Trae Waynes, the corner of Michigan State. My write up is as follows:
The Saints defense was 31st last year and it’s no secret it needs improvement. A starting corner opposite Keenan Lewis is of imperative need. Waynes is the complete package of size, physicality, speed and football skills. As the best corner in the draft he can help this unit immediately.
Now who could I have selected instead? The biggest considerations were La’El Collins of LSU (selected at 16 by a Texans blogger) and Bud Dupree of Kentucky (selected at 19 by a Browns blogger). Arik Armstead is a guy I had hoped would go in the top 13 to drop talent down the board but he went 21st. I think some might argue he’s a worthwhile pick in this scenario for the Saints at 13 but I much preferred Waynes.
Overall I think this is a pretty solid and realistic mock. Who would you have taken in my position?
