Drew Homers in 9th to Bring Sox Another Win!

The Red Sox came into the rubber game with the Astros with Ryan Dempster on the mound vs. Jarred Cosart from the Astros.  Dempster has struggled in his last few starts and last night he would get a lead early, but end up giving the lead away.  Thankfully Stephen Drew continued to be hot at the plate and brought the team the win in the final inning of the game.

The Red Sox took a small lead early in the game, even if they ended up having to rally late.  The Sox scored their first run in the 2nd inning when Brock Holt hit an RBI single to score Gomes.  Sox 1-0.  The Sox added another run in the 3rd when Carp hit into a double play, but Pedey scored from 3rd.  Sox 2-0.  In the bottom of the 3rd the Astros tied the game when Dempster gave up a 2 run HR to Grossman.  Sox 2-2.  The game stayed tied until the 6th inning when the Astros bats got all over Dempster.  The Astros scored 3 runs in the inning by way of an Altuve RBI single, a Castro RBI double and a Krauss sac fly.  Sox 2-5.  That would be it for Ryan Dempster and another performance where he just wasn't able to get the job done.  His line for the night was 92 pitches, 6 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 0 BB and 7 Ks.

The Sox had some dramatics in the 7th inning.  It began with Shane Victorino being ejected when he kept yapping at the 3rd base umpire for calling him out on what he believes was a checked swing.  Then the Sox got more dramatics and some runs on the board when Jonny Gomes came to the plate and hit a 2 run HR.  Sox 4-5.  Tazawa came out and pitched a scoreless 7th and 8th innings to keep the Sox within striking distance.  The Sox entered the bottom of the 9th still needing at least one run to tie the game.  Papi got on base and then relief pitcher Drake Britton came in to pinch run for him.  Gomes walked to have two runners on and one out when Stephen Drew came to the plate.  Drew not only tied the game, but gave the Sox the lead when he hit a 3 run HR.  Sox 7-5.  Drew has been nothing but clutch lately and it has been really great to see.  Uehara came out in the 9th and pitched another scoreless inning with 3 Ks to get the Sox's 70th win and his 11th save of the season.
