Dropping The Ball: A Spring Tradition

Notre dame football

Spring football has finally arrived for Notre Dame as they prepare for the upcoming 2012 season. But… you would hardly realize it on this site. In what has become a “tradition” of sorts for Subway Domer, we just drop the ball when it comes to spring practice. It’s been this way for years now and whether it be computer viruses, lack of Internet due to bad weather, pregnancies/births, or Apache vision quests- something just happens.

Now, just because we are less than punctual, that doesn’t mean there is a loss of insight. Quite the contrary. We have plenty of insight and commentary, and because we drip the ball so badly on “timing” we actually avoid writing a bunch of nonsensical bullshit that is completely wrong after one spring practice opening press conference from Brian Kelly.

It’s not that spring football isn’t important; it’s just that there is very little fans and media alike can really take away from it. Don’t believe me? Do names like Junior Jabbie or Chris Olsen ring a bell? Do you remember position changes of Harrison Smith to OLB and Chris Stewart to NG? Or how about the quarterback competitions from 2007 and 2011? Honestly, there is very little WE can take away.

So instead of the daily deluge of small bits of info and what not, I’ll probably have a podcast here and there for spring as we lead up to the Blue & Gold game. Yes, I dropped the ball a bit this week, but just as that should have been expected, so to should the lowering of your expectations be this spring. I’m not talking about wins and losses, but about our insight moving forward.

That of course is easier said than done, and we ALL drop he ball in that respect. It’s a spring tradition.
