Unless you’ve been under a rock, you know that the hockey world was set ablaze last night as the Tampa Bay Lightning indefinitely suspended Syracuse Crunch forward Jonathan Drouin, who under advice from his agent Allan Walsh did not report for last nights game against the Toronto Marlies, which Syracuse ended up losing 5-4 in overtime.
Reactions from pundits was fast and furious on Twitter. mostly condemning Drouin and Walsh for their actions. Here’s some examples of what people said:
The LightningShout Staff:
I will say this: the Lightning organization as a whole is far from a mess. Don’t let this one thing fool you.

Drouin does still have trade value. But teams have to wonder if this type of behavior could crop up if things don’t go a certain way. — Alexis Boucher (@alexis_b82) January 21, 2016

Piss poor judgement IMO. He has no leverage here.

This isn’t just affecting his standing/relationship with the Lightning. Every other organization sees what’s happening. — Alexis Boucher (@alexis_b82) January 21, 2016

Hard to imagine this increasing the chance of a trade. TBL have fumbled this from day 1- Now left w/ little leverage https://t.co/vXCq2hrEo4

Seems like a dangerous game Walsh is playing w/ that statement. If/when trade offers are reduced, TBL could have no incentive to make deal. — Benjamin Woodward (@_BWoodward) January 21, 2016

Lindros pulled what he pulled and still brought a treasure chest back, so not sure his trade value is totally gone…lower yes

I’d like to see his ass on $125 waivers at this point. https://t.co/IeZsyZid2E — Jason Haas (@Vasisexy) January 21, 2016

He’s 20 years old!!! Lmao https://t.co/foST7Zt4zR

Walsh has united GM’s against a trade. GM’s won’t allow trade to happen when it looks like one of their own caved in to a player. #backfired

Can’t wait until the first time he’s dropped to third line on next team. #TakeMyPuck #GoHome https://t.co/9017GFnfIb

Have you ever talked to Yzerman? The man literally doesn’t blink. #Drouin #Lightning

My suspicion is there will be more to come on Jonathan Drouin @TBLightning . Every1 should with hold judgement before jumping to conclusions
— Brian Lawton (@brianlawton9) January 21, 2016
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Keep in ming there are several factors to consider from both the clubs perspective and the players before passing judgement! #Drouin #TBL

So when all is said & done knowing how much interest there is I would say Drouin is traded by end of All-Star Weekend! #startthecountdown

Many folks will rush to this judgement & U may be right but as much as I don’t like it I don’t agree career ruined. https://t.co/6We1B6ae1S

MSL had an issue. Stamkos may have an issue. Clearly Drouin has an issue. 3 high profile guys. Interesting times in TB.

So Yzerman has done a great job yet somehow has reduced his trading position value to now need to expect less for an asset. Yeah great GMing

My 2 cents on Drouin: the tell is where the Crunch’s game was tonight. This was an orchestrated media stunt to embarrass the Lightning.

I hate the Walsh/Drouin stunt tonight. I also think he had a VERY strong point before tonight. Now? Can’t defend it. Horrible choice.

Recalling when Stamkos, as an RFA, stepped in and told agent to get a deal done so could join team. Players get advice, but have choices.
— Bolt Prospects (@BoltProspects) January 21, 2016
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Monsieur Drouin appears to be getting some very questionable advice. He has, after all, ZERO leverage.

So, a player with just 6 goals, 89 NHL games and still on an Entry Level contract demands a trade and won’t play anywhere. Wow. #RedFlag

On poor advice from an agent, I refused to go the AHL and was suspended. All It did was lose me money, and hurt my reputation. #drouin

Even today I regret it, I take 100% responsibility for a poor decision. It took me years to try to rebuild my reputation.

I’m a huge supporter of Drouin, don’t think he got a fair chance. But what he did today puts him no further ahead than he was yesterday.

Wow can’t believe Walsh issued such a blunt statement on behalf of his client oh no wait I can he did it 5 years ago pic.twitter.com/AhEA2zzmiM

What’s your opinion on the Drouin dilemma?
