Dubi Brings Sox To Series Win Over Fish!

Felix Doubront took the mound for the Sox coming off his worst outing of the year where he only last 4 innings against the Nats.  Doubront did an about face and went right back to being one of the best pitchers on the Sox staff.  Doubront was bringing a no hitter into the 6th inning and ended up pitching 7 strong innings.

Doubront just looked great.  Doubront walked Solano in the 1st, however that would be his only base runner until the 6th inning. He was getting batters to ground out, pop out, strike out, etc.  In the 6th with 2 outs, Doubront did lose his no no big with a bang.  He gave up a solo HR to Jose Reyes.  Doubront would struggle a little bit in the 7th as well.  Dubi gave up a leadoff single and then a double.  The Marlins had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs.  Doubront got Infante to pop out and then the Marlins scored their second and final run on a Ruggiano force out.  Doubront finished out the 7th inning and pitched a full 7 innings for the first time this season.  Doubront looked great.  His line for the night was 99 pitches, 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 9 Ks.

The offense came alive for the first time in a while too.  The Sox got on the board in the 3rd inning when Podsednik for an RBI ground out to score Mike Aviles.  Sox 1-0.  David Ortiz hit his 15th HR of the season in the 4th inning.  Sox 2-0.  In the 6th the Sox added two more runs to the scoreboard with a single from Adrian Gonzalez and a sac fly from David Ortiz.  Sox 4-0.  The Marlins got those two runs on the board, however the Sox would blow this game open in the 8th inning.  Nick Punto was in the game to pinch hit for pitcher Felix Doubront.  Punto hit a leadoff double to start the game and was followed by a single by Podsednik.  The Sox scored three runs in a row with singles from Pedey, Gonzo and Papi.  Sox 7-2.  Still no outs.  Will Middlebrooks was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Salty scored the 8th run on a sac fly.  Sox 8-2.  The final two runs were scored when Punto came up to bat again and hit an RBI single to score DMac and Middlebrooks.  Sox 10-2.

All the Sox needed is the bullpen to finish this game off and they would be looking at a series win.  Padilla started the inning for the Sox even though he pitched 24 pitches the game before.  Padilla gave up a single and was pulled in favor of Andrew Miller.  Miller had some hiccups and issues in his outing.  He was showing some of those bad habits that drove fans crazy last year.  Miller got two outs, but he also walked two batters.  The Marlins had the bases loaded and two outs.  Bobby V went out to get Andrew Miller and Matt Albers was in the game for the final out of the 8th.  Albers got the job done and got Stanton to ground out to end the inning.  Albers came back out in the 9th and had himself a nice 1-2-3 inning.  It’s really nice to see how well Albers is pitching this year.

Sox win and take the series.  We’re not back to 500 ball…yet.
