Klay Thompson is officially back on Twitter, just in time for Social Media Night, which is two nights from now on Thursday, February 20th, 2014, when the Golden State Warriors face the Houston Rockets at #Roaracle.

Thompson made the announcement at 4:27PM today, after the team had taken a bus up north to play against the Sacramento Kings tomorrow:

Seventeen minutes later, he posted a picture of his shooting shirt for Thursday night, in which every Warriors player will wear his Twitter handle on the back where the name is usually displayed.

Thompson has been notoriously absent from Twitter. We asked at USA Basketball’s Mens’ National Team workouts last summer when he would return to Twitter, and he simply said, “Someday”:

Thompson had been off Twitter since at least August of the previous summer, per a report by Benjamin Cruz.

In May of last year, David Lee tweeted that Thompson had gotten back on Twitter, but immediately removed that tweet, unsure if it was verified. We happened to notice that action, and Lee explained:

Up until now, the only connection fans have had to Thompson is through his older brother Mychel Thompson, who posted this picture on Instagram on Klay’s birthday:

There have been numerous fake Klay Thompson Twitter accounts setup during this whole time and we’re unsure if his handle @KlayThompson has remained dormant or was actually deleted, and if it was deleted, how he was able to retain it.

As we wrote from the summer training camp, Klay doesn’t usually give much more than a few sentences during interviews, so he should be a natural for Twitter and its 140-character limit!

Trust me, it’s hard to get Klay to say more than two sentences at once and, sure, Jim Rome has a way with guests that make them feel more comfortable than the average anonymous beatwriter, but for Klay to go off on the Bay and #Roaracle like that should make Warriors fans want to cheer even louder.
