Ducks may go back to the future with the 2011 passing game

“Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.”

Sometimes you have to look back to think fourth-dimensionally. With the emergence of some fast newcomers at wideout in Fall Camp, Oregon could have the kind of downfield passing threat they haven’t enjoyed since 2007. Remember Michigan in the Big House? Dennis Dixon torched the Wolverines with a fake Statue of Liberty, and long touchdown throws to Brian Paysinger, Derrick Jones and Jaison Williams.

If Darron Thomas can perfect his timing with this speedy, talented new group, and incoming receivers De’Anthony Thomas, Devon Blackmon, Tacoi Sumler, and B.J, Kelley can learn their assignments and prove their ability to block, this replay is a preview of what could happen in the Cowboy Classic and the PAC-12 season:

Darron Thomas had 30 touchdown passes as a sophomore and first-year starter. With a turbo-boost upgrade in his targets, could he throw for 40 in 2011? Could he, as DSH contributor goducks58 suggested, have a Heisman-worthy year? Set the flux capacitor to September 3, 2011, because the Black Momba, Rocket 80, DBlack12, and the fastest freshman in the NCAA have weapons-grade plutonium in their blur-fast shoes.

Think how potent and effective this could make the Oregon running game, with this kind of a threat to keep safeties and cornerbacks out of the box.
