Ducks need a wakeup call at halftime in 17-17 tie

Looking disorganized, error-prone and poorly-coached, the Ducks squandered a 14-0 lead with a second quarter full of costly errors, fumbling a punt and suffering two interceptions to spark the Beavers to a 17-17 tie, setting them the visitors up four times in plus territory.

After getting 83 yards on 7 carries from freshman Thomas Tyner, the Ducks inexplicably abandoned the running game, leaving him on the bench on three plays inside the Beaver five. De’Anthony Thomas was thrown backward on third down, and the Ducks settled for a field goal.

Marcus Mariota started the game 6-6, but then faltered, going 0-6 with two interceptions in the second period.

Oregon’s defense, plagued by poor tackling and disorganization, has allowed 264 yards of offense, including a net 87 yards on the ground.
