Comment: Stevens and Greig, a former walk-on, won a close battle at guard. Offensive line coach Steve Greatwood regularly rotates, mixes and matches his entire two-deep, particularly in the early season for depth, health and versatility.
Addison, Kelley and Allen will get a chance to show what they can do in the receiver rotation. Freshman Johnny Mundt had a big fall camp and looks to be the first tight end off the bench and the one most likely to be on the field in two tight end sets.

Freshman sensation Thomas Tyner will get carries and could emerge as a dazzling new option in the offense as the season continues. With 10.38 speed in the 100, “Dash” Tyner is among the fastest Ducks ever. Mariota, listed at 215, has matured physically, adding 20 pounds of sinew and muscle since his redshirt year. What a dazzling array of weapons in an offense that exploded for 49.6 points a game last season.

Comment: The secondary is among the deepest and best in college football. Avery Patterson has made a full recovery from ACL surgery and wins the starting nod at free safety. Dargan will play a lot also in a variety of defensive packages, the third leading returning tackler and the Ducks top interceptor in 2012 with five. The linebackers will rotate heavily; noteworthy is junior Rodney Hardrick getting the #1 position at middle linebacker. Hardrick is a form tackler with good size, healthy now after injury problems in his first two years. Arik Armstead has made rapid improvement between his freshman and sophomore years, now listed ahead of senior Ricky Havili-Heimuli, the Ducks biggest defensive lineman at 314. This is another position group that rotates in shifts, so both will play a ton over a long season of nicks and dents.

Comment: Matt Wogan is kicking off, so the Ducks should pin opponents deeper on kick returns, resulting in better field position, better starts for the defense. He averaged 85% touchbacks in high school. Sure-handed and shifty, Bralon Addison just looks more comfortable handling punts than De’Anthony Thomas. Addison made two difficult catches on punts in the Fiesta Bowl. Veteran backup quarterback Dustin Haines holds for placekicks, which means the full arsenal of Oregon fakes and feints is in play, particularly on extra points.
