Dungy talks to Dan Patrick

Tony talks to the master interviewer

DP: No, I want to hold on for dear life to keep you. You’re an honest person. Could you lie about Dwight Freeney’s status all this if you were asked questions.
TD: No, What I would do — and I think this is exactly what Jim Caldwell’s doing — saying we’re a little bit
pessimistic we think he’s going to play, we hope he’s going to play. We don’t know how much he’s gonna play. And in
that way, New Orleans really has to think about it. Is he going to be full strength? Should we prepare for him to
be there and chip and everything? Should we have a second gameplan in place in case he’s not there. I think they’re
probably putting a lot of doubt in the Saints mind.  Jim is probably being as honest as he can be.

DP: Do you want Dwight Freeney at 60 percent or do you want his backup at 100 percent?
TD: You see how the game goes. You certainly put him out there as much as you can early. And New Orleans won’t know  what percent he is. If he’s out there, they’re going to have to start with their plan as if he’s 100 percent.
Sometimes the threat of the nuclear bomb is just as good as the nuclear bomb.

DP: What do you think of Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams’ comments on ‘remember-me’ hits — that if I
don’t sack you, I’m still gonna hit you. They did that to Kurt Warner. They did that to Brett Favre. How would you
take that as Peyton Manning’s coach?
TD: I would kind of laugh at it. That’s what everyone tries to do. I don’t think it’s something Peyton really
worries about. I don’t think the Colts really even thought that much about it
