The Philadelphia Eagles have added a fifth player to this year’s practice squad and that is safety Trenton Robinson, this is according to a source via CSNPhilly.com. Robinson was waived by the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday; the Eagles do have questions in the secondary especially at the safety position so I am not surprised by this acquisition.
Robinson was drafted in the sixth round last year out of Michigan State. He spent all four years at Michigan State and was productive for the most part. He had 229 tackles, 12 pass breakups, and nine interceptions in 46 games. In 46 of those games, he started at safety for 32 games. With the addition of Robinson, the Eagles now can add three more players to the practice squad for a total of eight.
People in the San Francisco thought that Robinson could take the place of Dashon Goldson as he went to Tampa Bay in free agency. But that didn’t happen as the Niners drafted a safety in the first round selecting Eric Reid out of LSU. So Robinson became the odd man out in San Francisco. We will see what he does with the Eagles because as I mentioned earlier, they do have a concern at the safety position.
