The Philadelphia Eagles were in an unusual predicament as they lost their long snapper Jon Dorenbos for the reminder of the season with a wrist injury. With Dorenbos getting injured on Sunday, the Eagles had to use tight end Brent Celek as the long snapper, which did not work out well.
With that being known, the Eagles signed long snapper Rick Lovato. Lovato, recently worked out for the New York Jets last week and spent time with the Washington Professional Football Team. Earlier today, Zach Berman of The Philadelphia Inquirer, mentioned that the Birds were considering long snapper John DePalma, who was with the team in training camp.
After filling the roster spot vacated by Dorenbos, the Eagles then signed cornerback Dwayne Gratz to the 53-man roster. ESPN’s Adam Caplan reported earlier today that Gratz will be signed to a two-year deal.
Gratz, recently spent time both with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams this season, before being waived by Los Angeles last month. This season, Gratz has played in six games and has five total tackles.
Over his short NFL career, the former third round pick of the Jaguars has three interceptions, 13 pass deflections, and two forced fumbles.
Finally, according to Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com, the Eagles are expected to sign running back Byron Marshall to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
Marshall was with the Eagles in the preseason and would fill the roster spot left by Wendell Smallwood.
