Eagles Fantasy Football Appeal: Week 6

RussellWilson

The Eagles offense and defense had their best games of the season this past Sunday against the Saints and it was like Christmas for fantasy owners who owned an Eagle. Today I will be rating the fantasy value of each Eagles player for this week:

QB Sam Bradford

Week 5 performance: 333 passing yards, 2 touchdowns passes, 2 INT’s(19.3 fantasy points)

ESPN Week 6 projection: 15.7 fantasy points

We are really starting to see the true ability of Sam Bradford and aside from the two picks, he had a great fantasy showing vs the Saints with 19.3. Bradford is starting to show the consistency you want to see from your fantasy quarterback and he could soon turn into a must start. Bradford has a favorable matchup against the Giants, who allowed at least 14 fantasy points to quarterbacks in each game this season, so if you have him, start him.

RB DeMarco Murray

Week 5 performance: 83 rushing yards, rushing TD, 37 receiving yards(18 fantasy points)

ESPN Week 6 projection: 11.9 fantasy points

The Eagles finally used DeMarco Murray the right way in week 5, feeding him the ball 20 times for the first time this season. Murray averaged 4.2 yards per carry vs the Saints and also added seven receptions for 37 yards. Murray has a decent matchup against the Giants, who have allowed 3 rushing touchdowns to running backs this season, but hasn’t allowed a 100-yard rusher. Murray is definitely worth starting this week as a low-end RB1 with some upside.

RB Ryan Mathews

Week 5 performance: 73 rushing yards, touchdown, 23 receiving yards(15.6 fantasy points)

ESPN Week 6 projection: 3.8 fantasy points

Even with Murray dominating the touches, Mathews found a way to be productive making his seven carries count averaging 9.1 yards per carry. He also had a goal-line touchdown, but don’t expect Mathews sustain this productivity. There’s no doubt who the feature back is and as long Murray stays healthy, Mathews has little upside with the few touches he gets and against the Giants, you should stay away from starting him in any format.

RB Darren Sproles

Week 5 performance: 27 rushing yards, 10 receiving yards(3.7 fantasy points)

ESPN Week 6 projection: 6.4 fantasy points

Darren Sproles has been a non-factor in back to back weeks with DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews dominating the touches in the backfield. This matchup doesn’t bode well for Sproles on the ground, but he could have an impact game in the air for sure. There is also always the threat of Sproles bringing a punt back for a touchdown and he has big play capability. If you are going start Sproles, you should use him at your flex position this week, but he’s a low-end flex play at best this week with some upside.

WR Jordan Matthews

Week 5 performance: 5 receptions for 44 yards(4.4 fantasy points)

ESPN Week 6 projection: 9.3 fantasy points

With the Eagles offense finally running on all cylinders, Jordan Matthews is going become a huge threat and he continues to be the Eagles wide receiver to own in fantasy. His showing against the Saints was disappointing, but owners shouldn’t fret because Matthews is still the number one target in the Eagles offense and the ball was spread around a lot vs the Saints with nine different receivers with receptions. The matchup for Matthews this week is okay, but not great. The Giants have let up a ton of yards to wide receivers this season, but they only allowed two receiving touchdowns. Matthews this week is an high-end WR2 and look for him to dominate the targets Monday night.

WR Nelson Agholor Q

Week 5 performance: one catch for 5 yards(0.5 fantasy points)

ESPN Week 6 projection: 5.6

Nelson Agholor had an early exit against the Saints after hurting his left leg and only logged in one catch for five yards. Agholor had a chance to be a sneaky play in week 5 vs a vulnerable Saints secondary, but the injury quashed the possibility of that happening. Right now Agholor status is unknown, but he did not practice today so we will keep you updated. If he does suit up, you should stay away from starting him unless you are in a very deep league.

TE Zach Ertz

Week 5 performance: 5 receptions on 7 targets for 60 yards(6 fantasy points)

ESPN Week 6 projection: 5.8 fantasy points

Among tight ends, Zach Ertz has been one of the biggest fantasy disappointments, failing to score a touchdown through five games and only going over 50 yards receiving once. However, Ertz was coming off an injury to start the season so a somewhat slow start was to be expected. With Bradford getting more and more comfortable, Zach Ertz’s stock is going to rise each week  and could turn into a must start soon. The Giants defense has been extremely generous to tight ends this year, already having allowed four touchdowns to the position and giving up an average of 13 points per game to them. With the position being so shallow, Zach Ertz is a borderline TE1 for this week.

Eagles Defense/Special Teams

Week 5 performance: 17 points allowed, 1 interception, 3 fumbles recovered, 5 sacks(13 fantasy points)

ESPN Week 6 projection: 6.3 fantasy points

The Eagles defense had a great showing against the Saints, forcing 4 turnovers and getting to the quarterback a total of five times. But again, they did not have a defensive touchdown which hurts their value a bit. They will face an ailing Giants offense, who could be without their two best wide receivers, Odell Beckham Jr. and Ruben Randle. You should definitely start the Eagles defense this week because they are bound to force some turnovers and the Giants O-line hasn’t been great. Expect double digit fantasy points for the Eagles defense this week.

K Caleb Sturgis

Week 5 performance: 4/4 FG, 3/3 XPM(16 fantasy points)

ESPN Week 6 projection: 8.1 fantasy points

After a rough Eagles debut, Caleb Sturgis came back in the week 5 and was perfect on all his field goal attempts. Not many people own Sturgis in fantasy football, but if you do, he should be a good play this week, especially with Eagles offense running on all cylinders. If you don’t have him though, don’t rush to pick him up.
