Eagles LB Trent Cole suffered a hand injury Sunday night against the Cowboys and it is now unsure if he will return this season. His injury opens the door for Brandon Graham. On Saturday against Washington Graham will make his first start in more then two years.
Graham was a 1st round draft pick in 2010, that the Eagles traded up 11 spots to grab him. His rookie contract will be running out at the end of next year. Graham suffered a knee injury his rookie year that cut his season short and moved him down on the depth chart.
The 3-4 scheme that defensive coordinator Bill Davis is running has led to a productive season from Graham. According to multiple sources the Eagles have approached Graham about a contract extension. Reportedly the Eagles are offering 4 years. Graham is making $1.6 million this year and the final year of his contract is void able.
Graham could be a cheaper alternative to Cole, whose base salary will be doubling to $10 million in 2015.
‘If I do real good these last two games, you never know,’ Graham said. ‘Hopefully I’m here, man.’
This season Graham is 2nd on the team with 13.5 tackles for loss even though he is a backup. He also has 5.5 sacks this season. Graham has 4 forced fumbles which are tied for 2nd most in the NFL.
‘I think I’m capable of just being a great player at my position,’ Graham said this week. ‘I’m trying to be great every time I hit the field. I just go out and just do my job the best that I can and hopefully every time I do that we come out with a W.’
