One of the main priorities coming into this off-season was solidifying the defensive backfield, and the Eagles made a huge stride in doing so by extending the stay of safety Malcolm Jenkins for another five years.
The Eagles officially announced via Twitter that Jenkins is now signed through 2020. He originally signed a three-year deal when he joined the Eagles in 2014 after spending five years with the New Orleans Saints.
Since coming to Philadelphia, Jenkins has become a cornerstone in the Eagles’ defense, and has been widely acclaimed as the Eagles’ best safety since Brian Dawkins. He has excelled in his ability at playing safety, while also being able to line up on receivers, and occasionally rush.
The 28 year-old recorded 109 tackles, two interception, and two forced fumbles in 2015, earning him a spot in this year’s Pro Bowl.
With new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz coming into Philadelphia, Jenkins will look to adapt to a new-look defense, while posting his same impressive numbers, and carrying out his leadership on the field.
