Eagles Prospect Watch: Valero Alamo Bowl

Okay so I know we have been taking a break from the Eagles Prospect Watch for a couple of days but we are back it today with the Valero Alamo Bowl that is happening tonight at 6:45 pm ET on ESPN. In this game we have the Texas Longhorns (Big 12) taking on Oregon State (Pac 12).

Just like all the bowl games we have previewed so far, we are going to preview a potential Eagles draft prospect from Texas and one potential Eagles draft prospect from Oregon State. Let’s first start with Texas and they have a NFL ready stud safety in Kenny Vaccaro. Vaccaro is a senior and has performed like one this season.

This season Vaccaro has had double digit tackling games against teams such as TCU, Kansas State, and West Virginia. Along with his tackling, Vaccaro has two interceptions and is a contributor on special teams. Vaccaro is a first round talent and will be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft it might be too high for the Eagles to select him at 4th overall, but if he performs well in tonight’s bowl game and in the NFL combine then he might be worth taking a chance on.

Eagles Prospect Watch: Valero Alamo BowlFor Oregon State, let’s take a look at senior wide receiver Markus Wheaton. Wheaton is a catching machine as he has gotten better every year he’s been at Oregon State. This season was his best season. He had 88 receptions for 1,207 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns.

You can also throw in there 116 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Wheaton is not a big wide receiver at 6-1, 182 lbs but is a speedster. The Eagles do not need another speedster at wide out but I definitely could see him being drafted in the 3rd and 4th rounds of the NFL Draft.

So as you watch this game, make sure you keep an eye out for Vaccaro and Wheaton but be on the lookout as we have one more Eagles Prospect Watch article tonight previewing players from the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.
