The Philadelphia 76ers are not the only team in the city making moves today as the Philadelphia Eagles decided to join the fray as well. First reported by ESPN’s Adam Caplan, the Eagles released tight end James Casey.
Then a few minutes later, the Philadelphia Eagles made the release official.
#Eagles release TE James Casey.
— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) February 19, 2015
With the Eagles releasing Casey, they saved $4 million in cap room which brings the cap space to $22 million before they head into free agent.
Moments after the Eagles announced his release; Casey expressed his thankfulness for being a part of the organization for the past two years.
I was fired by the Eagles today. Thank you to the entire organization, my teammates, coaches, and all the fans for 2 great years.

In 31 games with the Eagles, Casey had six receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Even though, he was not a factor on the offensive side of the ball, Casey was a solid special teams contributor. With the Eagles moving on from Casey, it seems like Trey Burton will most likely fill his void on the roster as he was becoming more of a factor towards the end of the season.
