Last season, the offensive line was a huge problem for the Philadelphia Eagles. After having one of the best offensive lines in the league, it became one of the worst. According to Football Outsiders, the Eagles’ offensive line ranked 20th overall in pass protection, giving up 37 sacks with an adjusted sack rate of 6.6 percent.
This offseason, general manager Howie Roseman knew that they needed to make huge changes to the line, if they wanted to have a successful season.
Nevertheless, Roseman made the offensive line a priority by signing offensive guards Brandon Brooks and Stefan Wisniewski in free agency. Then in the NFL draft, selecting Isaac Seumalo and Halapoulivaati Vaitai in the third and fifth rounds.
Despite those additions, the Eagles had some interest in former New Orleans Saints right guard Jahri Evans, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan. Evans, the Philadelphia native played in 11 games this past season on a Saints’ offensive line that was ranked seventh in pass protection.
Evans, the six-time Pro Bowler, signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, after the team hosted him for a visit the previous day.
It is not surprising to see that the Eagles were interested in the Bloomsburg University alum. Despite Evans being 32 years-old, he would’ve provided the Eagles depth behind starter Brandon Brooks.
However, with the Seahawks, Evans will get a chance to compete and start for a spot on their offensive line.
