There is some Eagles news that needs to be addressed.
Recently, Sam Bradford has supposedly requested a trade out of Philadelphia. He does not want to fight for his spot as the Eagles starting quarterback. Everyone knows the Eagles are taking a QB this Thursday. With that being said, Bradford knows his future in Philadelphia is in doubt. As a first overall pick just a few years ago, Sam knows he has potential to be a franchise quarterback. It’s the one word potential that is key. He has never lived up to his potential. Sam Bradford has been in the league seven years and has only won 25 games. Also, he has only thrown for 78 touchdowns in that time. I get that he has been injured. However, in reality that is not the play you want from a franchise quarterback. He has also made franchise quarterback money (about $78 million). Do you think it’s smart to have him on your roster? He’s expensive and has not lived up to the price he and his agent Tom Condon demand.
What do we do with Sam Bradford? Do we let him play this year? In my opinion, I believe we need to trade him. It’s going to be hard. According to rumors, the Eagles are asking a lot in return for Bradford. I think we need to take whatever is offered. If we get a second round pick for him, great. All I want in return for him is a third rounder, and I’d even consider taking a fourth.
When the Eagles select a quarterback on Thursday they need to give him the keys to the car. Whether that will be Carson Wentz or Jared Goff (I have the Eagles picking Wentz), we have to put forth trust in him. The rookie coming in needs to know this is his franchise, and it’s up to him to take it to new heights. Drafting a quarterback on Thursday offers the chance of stability. Stability at the quarterback position is a “major key” (to quote DJ Khaled) to a winning franchise. This player has the full trust of the coach and front office. On Thursday, when the Eagles select either Wentz or Goff, they will also be given the franchise away. It is now in the control of that QB.
The Bradford era ended a bit prematurely in Philadelphia, but I think Eagles nation is ready to move on.
