This is the first season in a long time that the Eagles will be with a new head coach, and the fans could not be anymore excited. Andy Reid’s time in Philly was well overdue and the team has moved on. There are still high expectations for this time especially with new head coach Chip Kelly and his high flying offense. While the team has made some changes some minor, and some major this team is completely expected to compete in a highly competitive NFC East. The team was plain awful last year, and had fans disgusted. The Eagles are faced with many questions this year, but have one of the most talented offenses in the league which automatically gives them a chance to be a great team.
Whether Michael Vick or Nick Foles is the starting quarterback the Eagles are in decent shape there. While Vick fits the offense better, Kelly has promised to give Foles a chance to succeed as well. Both players compliment the rest of the talented offense greatly, and give the team a great chance to win. LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson are going to be exciting players to watch this year in Kelly’s explosive offense and both players could see career years. Running the ball more this year is exactly what the fans want, and is exactly what they will get. Kelly will use both Shady and Bryce Brown to run the ball up and down the field, and wear defenses out. DeSean Jackson has the best chance to shine next year and we might see him all over the field making plays. Kelly could use Jackson in multiple positions and use his speed to burn defenses all year long. The Eagles helped the O-Line improve as well by drafting the dynamic Lane Johnson. He instantly makes the line better, and the team will also be getting Jason Peters back. The line will definitely be better this year and has a chance to be a really solid group. We all know what the Eagles offense can do since we have been hearing about how good they are for years now. As long as Vick or Foles can keep the turnovers to a minimum the offense should one of the best in the league this year.
The Eagles defense was a major disappointment last year, and seemed to let the team down all the time. Alleged “superstar” Nnamdi Asomugha could not have played worse, and got burned by opposing players constantly. He never lived up to the hype surrounding him and that is why he is now playing football elsewhere. DRC was another disappointment to a depleted Eagles secondary. Jason Babin, and Trent Cole both did not play well last year, and Babin is now in Jacksonville. I fully expect Cole to bounce back to have a solid season for the birds. The Eagles made a huge switch and moved to a 4-3. This gives the team a chance to take advantage of their extremely talented players and use them to the best of their abilities. The team brought in more linebacker help with Connor Barwin. The secondary was completely redone with additions of Carry Williams, Pat Chung, and Kenny Phillips. The team has definitely improved on this side of the ball and should see better results than last year.
Vegas has the Eagles winning seven games next year. To me, this team can easily be over that number. Depending on if Chip Kelly’s offense can translate to the NFL level, we can see this season go in two directions. 1. If Kelly’s offense can fool teams and it is truly as good as it was at Oregon the team will easily go over seven wins and make the playoffs. 2. The offense is predictable and players get injured easily and the Birds are lucky to win seven games. In my opinion, I see the offense working and I see Kelly taking advantage of this highly talented offense. My predictions is the team wins 10 games and makes the playoffs this upcoming season.
