Today, the Philadelphia Eagles announced that they agreed to terms on a four-year deal with sixth-round draft pick cornerback JaCorey Shepherd out of Kansas.
Many analysts are calling Shepherd a steal as the Eagles got him with the 191st pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. The 5-foot-11, 199 lb. corner possess a lot strong qualities such as good anticipation skills, solid footwork, and shutdown corner capabilities.
This past season as a senior, Shepherd had 16 pass breakups and three interceptions, which earned him first-team all-Big 12 honors. He began his career at Kansas originally at wide receiver but eventually made the switch to cornerback. Over his four-year career, he finished with 90 tackles, 37 pass breakups, and five interceptions.
Shepherd was one of three cornerbacks that the Eagles drafted in this year’s draft. The other two were Utah’s Eric Rowe drafted in the second round and Kansas State’s Randall Evans in the sixth round. Shepherd should provide competition for the left cornerback, dimeback, and nickelback jobs.
Currently, linebacker Jordan Hicks from University of the Texas, who the Eagles drafted in third round is the only unsigned draft pick.
