Eagles Talk: Ask The Beats Part 1

This is the first piece of my multi-piece segment called “Ask The Beats”; where I talk to a variety of Philadelphia Beat reporters, and ask them a particular Eagles related question. If you’re interested in some moves I’d make if I were the Eagles GM, check out this post.

Question: If you could trade for any player in the NFL, who would it be and why?

I asked these beat writers who they would trade for in the NFL. That is because the Philadelphia Eagles are not a perfect team, in fact, there are many areas where the Eagles can improve. Some fans think the Eagles need defensive help, some think offensive. Most think they need help on both sides of the ball. In a perfect world, who would you want the Eagles to add to their roster? Think of any player in the NFL; who would you trade for? I personally would love to trade for a player like  Patrick Peterson or Richard Sherman. In my opinion they are the best two corner backs in the NFL, and either one of them would come to Philadelphia and thrive. Secondary is a big concern for me, that is why I would make that trade. However, this series is about the Beats, so lets see what they would do.

Of the seven beats I asked, Six of them choose to trade for an offensive player, leaving one for a defensive position. Three of them choose to trade for a Quarterback, two of them said Wide Receivers, one choose a Running Back, and finally one choose a Defensive End. Lets get into each pick and what there reasoning was.

1. Tyler Steege (His blog is eyeoftheeagles.wordpress.com)

 Trade for: Russell Wilson.

Why: Young, proven, stud QB

2. Bryn Swartz (Philadelphia Eagles & NFL writer at )

Trade for: JJ Watt.

Why: Best player in the NFL who would thrive in Jim Schwartz’s scheme.

3. Tom Aresco (His blog: )

Trade for: Odell Beckham Jr.

Why: Steal a rival’s best player, can’t-miss star wideout

4. Jonny Page (eyeoftheeagles.wordpress.com, his All-22 are like no other)

Trade for: Cam Newton.

Why: NFL defenses are reacting to a passing league & getting smaller, going back to power football with a power QB like Cam is the way forward

5. Liam Jenkins (Commentator & Philadelphia Sports Writer. Founder of )

Trade for: Todd Gurley.

Why: Young, explosive and could prove to be the Eagles equivalent of Jamaal Charles under Doug Pederson. His ceiling is incredibly high and could lead the charge in the Eagles backfield for years to come.

6. Keianna Williams (Hostess on blogtalkradio.com/goddessandhurka, she’s got a great twitter account!)

Trade for: DeAndre Hopkins.

Why: He has the build and the explosive playmaking ability, and could be a stand out leader in a WR core like this. He’s produced back to back 1,000 yard seasons and has gotten better each season.

7. Conor Myles (Eagles writer for . Affiliate. Contributor for & .)

Trade for: Russell Wilson.

Why: Makes everyone around him better, two dimensional player, makes an average passing attack so much better than it should be. Just a true franchise QB.

Each of them make a solid point for who they want to trade for. To be honest, I think I like the Todd Gurley, Hopkins and Beckham Jr pick. All three of those players would tear it up in the midnight green. I would like to thank all of them for participating in this, and each week I hope to do another article like this.

Now it is your turn, who would you want to trade for and why? Leave a comment in the comments section to let us know your opinion.
