Here we are, right before training camp starts, the Eagles make a deal to send Brandon Boykin to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a conditional draft pick. The pick the Eagles will receive can be as high as a 4th round pick, that’s if Boykin plays 60% of the snaps.
I am not shocked by this move at all, as I mentioned in my last article I still felt that Chip wasn’t done making moves with this roster. A lot of people were Boykin fans here in Philadelphia and wanted to see him get a shot to start at CB. He was used here as a nickel cornerback and never really got the opportunity to start on the outside. I would have liked to seen that as well but I understand the move.
Boykin was surprised by the trade according to Chip Kelly but he also had some interesting comments about Kelly. According to Derrick Gunn, Boykin texted him saying, “The truth is Chip is uncomfortable around grown men of our culture. He can’t relate, and that makes him uncomfortable, he likes to be in total control of everything. Players can excel when you naturally let them be who they are and in my experience that hasn’t been important to him, but you guys have heard this before me.”
Another player attacking Kelly and his personality. Chip is certainly “married to the game” and it seems as if Boykin could only talk football with him. This isn’t something that happens a lot with coaches. McCoy, Jackson, and now Boykin with comments attacking Kelly’s character.
But on a more important note, today is Day 1 of Training Camp.
