Eagles weekly recap: Bradford deal, Murray unhappy, O-line moves, and more

NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-Montreal Canadiens at New York Rangers

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Eagles weekly recap. The storyline of the off-season has finally wrapped up, and other questions have come to the forefront. Let’s get right into it:

  • FINALLY! The story of whether quarterback Sam Bradford would return lingered on long enough, and it finally came to a head this week. Bradford and the Eagles agreed on a two-year, $36 million deal which includes $26 million guaranteed ($13 million per season). With Bradford now a lock, the Eagles can use free agency and the draft to address other key positions.
  • Bradford’s deal was not the only one for the Eagles this week. According to Philly.com’s Zack Berman, The Eagles offered a one-year tender to guard Matt Tobin to keep him with the Eagles through 2016. The tender is worth the minimum of $1.67 million. Tobin is one of the guards to step up after the Chip Kelly shake-up that sent guards Todd Herremans and Evan Mathis packing.
  • In another offensive line related story, back-up center David Molk has decided to retire. Molk played for two seasons with the Eagles, however he missed most of the 2015 season due to a torn bicep suffered in the season-opener against Atlanta.
  • There has been so much back-and-forth regarding the status of DeMarco Murray and whether he is happy in Philadelphia. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport tweeted that the belief is that Murray is not happy in Philadelphia. Murray is owed $13 million in guaranteed money for this coming season, so the chances of him not being in an Eagles uniform at the start of the season are looking pretty slim. Murray has yet to publically comment on the reports.
  • Now that the Bradford deal is done, attention now turns to locking in defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, who is set to become a free-agent in 2017. The all-pro tackle has become the life of the Eagles defense, and will certainly garner a big payday. Eagles VP of personnel Howie Roseman has stated getting a done deal with Cox is certainly on the to-do list, and that the team is making strides to get in the best financial position to keep Cox in Philly for many years to come.
