Eagles weekly recap: Bradford, more quarterback speculation, and more

SI Cover Jeremy Lin

Welcome to this week’s addition of the Eagles weekly recap. Much to no surprise, this has been a rather quarterback-heavy week, as well as a week that saw some new additions to the 2016 90-man roster. Let’s get right into it.

  • The seemingly never-ending saga concerning quarterback Sam Bradford continues, and now the Eagles have the opportunity to place the franchise tag on the potential free-agent-to-be. The franchise tag is projected to be around $20 million for quarterbacks this year, and the Eagles have until March 9 to decide before Bradford officially goes into free-agency.
  • Adding to quarterback speculation, another name that is being heavily thrown around as potentially wearing an Eagle uniform in 2016 is current Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chase Daniel. Given that Daniel has played under new Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, many, including our own Jovan Alford and Jalil Phillips, have discussed the possibility of Daniel landing in Philadelphia. While there is no official word on the possibility, fans will wait and see if anything comes of the speculation.
  • If you guessed that the next story would be quarterback news, you are right. In order to begin beefing up their 90-man roster for the spring, the Eagles will sign veteran quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Caplan. Bethel-Thompson entered the league in 2011, and has played for a host of teams around the league, including the San Francisco 49ers, and New England Patriots. He also had stints in the UFL with the Sacramento Mountain Lions, and in the AFL with the San Jose SaberCats.
  • In addition to signing Bethel-Thompson, the Eagles also added wide-receivers Seantavius Jones and Xavier Rush, and cornerback Aaron Grymes. Jones spent time with the New Orleans Saints before landing in Philadelphia. Rush last played for Tulane before tearing his ACL in 2014, and Grymes played three seasons in the CFL with the Edmonton Eskimos.
