Welcome to the official return of the Eagles Weekly Recap. After a somewhat quiet summer, things are starting to pick up, and lots of things are happening as the season inches closer. Let’s get into it:
- The 2016 season is drawing near, and the Philadelphia Eagles reported to training camp this week. Quarterbacks, rookies, and other selected vets reported earlier in the week while the rest of the team reported Thursday.
- With the start of camp comes the continuation of the Eagles quarterback madness. Unsurprisingly, quarterback Sam Bradford has shined early in camp so far. While speaking to the media Thursday, left tackle Jason Peters stated that quarterback Carson Wentz showed signs of a star in the making so far.
- Running back Darren Sproles is here to stay beyond 2016. The Eagles announced Friday that Sproles agreed to a one-year contract extension that will take him through 2017. The added year on the deal is worth $4.5 million.
- This week, the Eagles made several roster moves to sure up their 90-man roster for training camp. The Eagles signed quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, linebacker Don Cherry, and safety Nick Perry. The team also released linebacker Travis Long, who suffered three ACL tears, and placed running back Ryan Mathews on the reserve/non-football injury list after suffering an ankle injury while training in San Diego.
- New Eagles linebacker Nigel Bradham was arrested Monday after a Miami hotel incident where he allegedly attacked a staff member for poor service. Conflicted reports have surfaced in terms of whether Bradham was provoked or not. Bradham was eventually released from jail, and did report to camp on Thursday. He has a Aug. 2 court date set, and is sure his name will be cleared of the incident.
That’s it for this week. Stay tuned with Total Sports Live for the latest involving the Philadelphia Eagles.
