Welcome to this week’s edition of the Eagles weekly recap. This week, the Eagles made a major splash in their free-agency quest, solidifying one of the best defenders in the game, among other happenings. Let’s get into it:
- The negotiations between the Eagles and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox plagued much of the early part of the year, but it has come to an exciting end. This week, the Eagles signed Cox to a six-year contract extension worth an earth-shattering $103 million with $63 million guaranteed. Following the signing, Cox spoke to the media, stating that the deal is “mind-blowing” to him and noted that he is extremely humbled for the opportunity to become of the highest paid players in the league.
- Speaking of the Eagles free-agency, Cox’s deal officially puts the Eagles total guaranteed contract offering this offseason at $280,254834. That is miles beyond the rest of the NFL, with the Giants coming it second with $140,873,332, over $100 million less than the Birds.
- Last Friday, Eagles wide-receiver Nelson Agholor landed in hot water, being named in an alleged sexual assault that took place at Cheerleader’s Gentlemen’s Club in South Philadelphia. The Eagles confirmed the investigation, however no one from the organization is providing any further comments. In a rather game-changing twist, an anonymous source tells that the claims were brought on as a result of a money dispute between Agholor and the alleged victim.
- In some much lighter news, rookie quarterback Carson Wentz has found some off-the-field issues of his own. According to his twitter post, Wentz found himself locked in a New Jersey gas station bathroom before being rescued by some gas station attendants. The humorous ordeal has become a sensation across social media.
