Welcome to this week’s edition of the Eagles weekly recap. This week, the Eagles full roster (minus a few) held their first practice, and quarterback Sam Bradford finally broke his silence, among other happenings. Let’s get into it.
- This week, the Philadelphia Eagles reported to NovaCare complex for their first official full-team workout of the season. While the practice was voluntary, most of the team attended with an exception of a few veterans. The most notable aspect of the first practice was seeing the Eagles 2016 starting quarterback Sam Bradford, and quarterback of the future Carson Wentz share the practice field for the first time. Not surprisingly, many reports had Bradford as the top performing quarterback of the day.
- With the Eagles first practice came the first time we heard Bradford speak since returning from his two-week holdout. Among many comments, Bradford assured the fans that he is committed to being the Eagles quarterback, stating that “Philadelphia is the best place for me.” Bradford also revealed the source of his frustration, stating that he had hoped to have the opportunity to earn a long-term deal with the Eagles, and be their quarterback for the remainder of his career.
- One veteran that has not reported to voluntary workouts is running back Darren Sproles. Controversy sparked when NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported that Sproles’ absence was due to the Eagles receiving trade offers for him. Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has since denied such reports, stating that Sproles is on a family vacation, and showed his support for Sproles’s decision to be away for now.
- The Eagles made another roster move this week as they signed guard Matt Tobin to a new two-year deal according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan. After signing a one-year tender worth $1.6 million on April 4, the Eagles restricted Tobin’s deal, a move that will cause Tobin to see a dip in his base salary for 2016. Tobin has been with the Eagles since 2013, but has largely struggled so far.
