Welcome to this week’s edition of the Eagles Weekly Recap. The Eagles are coming off what was undoubtedly their most impressive win of the season thus far, and are amidst their break before continuing their 2016 campaign. Let’s get into it:
- After a solid 3-0 start, the Eagles have now reached their bye week for the season. Coming out of their bye, the team hopes to recapture the momentum that has helped them top the NFC East, and remain one of the few undefeated teams in the NFL.
- Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz has been playing lights-out football this season, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed. This week, Wentz was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after his two-touchdown performance against the Steelers. This is his second award of the season as he was named the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week following the Eagles Week 1 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
- The Eagles rookie prodigy was not the only player to be recognized this week. This past week, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was named the defensive player of the month. Cox has recorded 11 total tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble so far this season after receiving a hefty payday this offseason.
- An appeal hearing will take place this Tuesday for Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson who is facing a potential 10-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Pending the outcome of the hearing, Johnson’s suspension could start Oct. 9. If the full 10-game suspension is upheld, the Eagles will be without their top-performing lineman until Week 15 when they take on the New York Giants.
- The Eagles will return to the field on Oct. 8 when they head to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions. The team is looking to have both tight end Zach Ertz and cornerback Leodis McKelvin back for the game, as well as a healthy Ryan Mathews.
That’s it for this week. Stay tuned with Total Sports Live for the latest involving the Philadelphia Eagles.
