"You don't win games on paper" – Penguins GM Ray Shero
No matter the outcome of tonight's game, the Bruins won. The road's team job is to go into their opponents building and win one game, essentially split before they come home for two games. Boston did that and they did it in a big way. Let's be real, Pittsburgh fans expected the Penguins to come out on that ice and roll the Bruins. It's what they're used to given that their last two playoff opponents were fucking horrible. So cute the usual bullshit:
– The Bruins are divers
– The Bruins are goons
– The refs were against Pittsburgh
– The Bruins goals were luck
This is all of the usual fan rhetoric that happens when their team loses. Same goes when Boston loses. Suddenly it's everyone's fault but their own team. How about this…the Penguins out hit, out shot and basically out played Boston in Game 1 and lost because the Penguins tried to be the Bruins. You can pinpoint the exact time when Pittsburgh lost their shit and it was after the second period.
I'm not big into narratives when it comes to posts. I think it's bullshit for people who are just looking for page hits. I'm not going to write about how the Bruins are underdogs and overcame huge odds to win in Pittsburgh. I'm not going to write that Matt Cooke's hit changed the pace of the game for Boston. I'm not going to write any of that because that's lazy.
I want to talk about Matt Cooke's hit for a minute. It was uncalled for and it was dirty and I wanted to say something to both fanbases:
To our Boston readers, I'm sick of hearing Matt Cooke come from your lips, especially when the Bruins have a dirty player of their own in Brad Marchand.
To any Pittsburgh readers, I'm sick of you saying "Brad Marchand is so fucking dirty" when you have the king of dirty hits.
Okay, I get it. Both teams have a player who can get under your skin. If there's anything to bitch about, it's the consistency of those calls on Saturday night. You, literally, can not convince me that Cooke deserved 5 and an ejection and Marchand didn't. Either give them both 5 and a game or give them both 2 minutes and call it a day.
If there's anything to come out of Saturday night's game it's that the NHL officiating is hitting NBA levels.
Sorry, I'm getting off-track here.
What made me happy about Saturday night was hearing Consol so quiet. There's nothing more satisfying then hearing an arena so quiet that a mouse's queef would sound like an air raid horn.
But Saturday is over. Nothing carries over from playoff game to playoff game and Boston could get their doors blown off tonight and everything that happened Saturday night gets washed away.
It took Tuukka Rask playing out of his fucking mind to keep the Penguins at bay and he's going to have to do it again, especially if Boston continues to take stupid penalties. When you watched the beginning of the game, the Bruins took dumb penalties because they couldn't keep up with Pittsburgh's skating. Speed kills the Bruins. Pittsburgh decided to stop skating and try to out muscle Boston – if they continue skating it could be disastrous tonight.
Or maybe Brad Marchand will kill someone because HE'S SO FUCKING DIRTY YOU GUYS – NOT LIKE THEM PENGUINS.
Also, DICKGUIRE tonight so you know what that means:
and also tons of:
I can't top that…honestly…
