Eddie Gran Moves on to Kentucky

-22

Reports a couple weeks ago suggested that Eddie Gran would be a top candidate for the open Kentucky offensive coordinator position. Those reports ended up being fruitful because today Gran has accepted the offensive coordinator job at Kentucky.

Hinshaw was the passing game coordinator and also the quarterback coach. Gran coached the running backs. Hinshaw possibly going with Gran seems to indicate that he would not be a top choice to replace Gran. That, or he wants to live in Lexington.

A lot has been said about Gran’s playcalling while at Cincinnati. Some of it was great, some of it was questionable, but the results were pretty outstanding in terms of yards and points. Of course, Gran leaves after one of the worst, perhaps the worst, UC performances of his entire tenure. Who knows how much of that was yet another distraction on the Hawaii trip?

Eddie Gran recruited Florida. That’s clearly one of the big states for schools like UC to find some of the lesser known talent, like a Mike Boone. So not only does Tuberville have to replace one or two top coaches, he’s got to find someone new to find the talent they will be coaching. One does wonder if any more commits will back out and end up somewhere else. Like Kentucky.

Who also knows what will happen with the current quarterback situation? It’s going to be a hot button topic for sure.

All the best to Eddie Gran. Hopefully his replacement will do the things Gran did well and be another successful hire. All the best to Darin Hinshaw as well. Hopefully he’ll get the opportunities he wants.
