The Knicks often-injured Amar’e Stoudemire has been out the past six weeks after undergoing yet another procedure on his knees. Knicks coach Mike Woodson doesn’t expect him back for the Celtics series, but Amar’e thinks a higher power might reach out and touch him:
Stoudemire thinks there’s even a chance he can return in the first round of the playoffs.
“You never know, man. The Most High sometimes touches me and I heal up fast so hopefully that happens again,” Stoudemire said on Thursday at the premier of his documentary, “Amar’e Stoudemire: In The Moment,” which will debut on EPIX on Friday.
The Most High? Sounds like my nickname during my sophomore year at Emerson College.
So what does Amar’e think of the Celtics chances?
In fact, he has a guarantee to make.
“We’re going to win that first round for sure,” he said on Thursday night in New York City during a screening of his upcoming EPIX documentary, “Amar’e Stoudemire: In The Moment,” which premieres on April 19. “Obviously, as we all know, with the Celtics, you can never underestimate those guys. We’ve got to definitely come to play every game, and bring that focus and determination every single night. I have high confidence in what we can do.”
I don’t have a problem with an athlete expressing confidence in his team. Especially an athlete who has often felt the hand of The Most High.
