We often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics. Here’s a look at some enemy chatter from Nawlins.
Everyone walked out of the Boston Garden a winner: the Celtics didn’t suffer the shame of losing to the injury-ridden Pelicans, and they kept their half-game lead over Miami for the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference. The Pelicans, meanwhile, continue to do the best we could hope for with the players available: show a little heart but not at the expense of their lottery odds.
For a moment there, it looked like New Orleans was going to mess this up for everybody. A Luke Babbitt jumper tied the game at 93 with 2:38 remaining. Fortunately (I mean this is what we want right?) Boston closed the game on an 11-4 run. Celtics 104, Pelicans 97. Mission reluctantly accomplished.
It’s hard to have sympathy for a fan base that gets to enjoy Anthony Davis, but there’s nothing worse than rooting for losses. Hell, we were there just a few years ago. So consider this a friendly reminder to enjoy our team’s success – even though it’s highly unlikely to result in Banner 18.
The Pels also showed much love for IT4:
Isaiah Thomas is awesome. You’ve got to love a guy who’s just barely 5’8″ dropping 32 against a team desperately trying to slow him down. He shot 10/19 from the floor, 3/6 from deep, had 4 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, and was +22 during his time on the floor (+7 higher than anyone else on the team). Past the statistics, he willed the Celtics through the fourth quarter to victory. The Pelicans were initially down coming out of half time, and managed to fight back at the end of the third. Through the fourth, they kept it neck and neck up until the final minutes when Thomas checked in the game and ended their dreams.
Thomas really was dominant last night. As I wrote in the recap, the C’s rarely win because they have the best player on the court but that was the case last night.
