I often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics after playing the Celtics. Here's a dose of 'enemy chatter' from Minnesota.
"It wasn't a travel," Ridnour said as he turned back to his locker. "At least I didn't think it was."
"Ray made a heck of a play to block it anyway, but I think it should have been our ball," Ridnour said after watching a replay that appeared to show he took three steps. "I'm not going to criticize the referees. At that junction of the game, it seemed like a tough call to me."
Wow. That may have been the most obvious travel in the history of the league.
On Page 2, no love for Tommy Heinsohn.
Tommy Heinsohn put in a ridiculous performance. It was grating to listen to his almost child-like bemusement and disbelief that anyone not in Celtic green could perform even the most basic of basketball play. He spent the entire game bitching about the refs only to end the game saying "I like that ref" when bailed out on a traveling call that could have been issued any number of times against his favorite team during the game and season. This game really puts into perspective just how good of a color analyst Jim Petersen is.
I shudder to think of what this game would have looked like from a physical/mugging standpoint had KG played. At one point in the game, Tommy H bemoaned the fact that a Celtics player got called for boxing out while facing his man. The sad thing here is not that Tommy doesn't know that this is a foul, but that he has become so accustomed to it not being called, that…well, it is amazing to me to think that Baby Davis is considered a functional NBA player when you focus in on what he does on a play-by-play basis. It's wrestling.
Tommy is… what Tommy is. A blatant homer who views games through green glasses. And despite his obsession with officiating (to his credit there was some horrific calls – especially that illegal screen on Jermaine O'Neal) and his age (76), he's still pretty good with Xs and Os.
While I've never heard Jim Petersen, NBA TV has shown me that there are a lot of color analysts who are much worse than Tommy.
As for the dig on Glen Davis, the comment had to be the result of the bitter taste from swallowing that loss. If anything, Big Baby is not physical enough.
