Enemy Chatter: Rick Carlisle is looking forward to his number being retired

We often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics. Here’s a look at some enemy chatter from Dallas.

Carlisle couldn’t resist having a little fun at the media’s expense before Wednesday’s game.

He was asked about the 1986 Boston team that he was part of and won the NBA championship.

“I know my number is going to be retired here, and I’ll be very proud when it goes up,” Carlisle said. “I’ll try to be here for that.”

Carlisle wore No. 34, which also happens to be Paul Pierce’s number.

“He’ll share in that, too, I’m sure,” Carlisle said.

Sports Day

Oh that sly Rick Carlisle.

Congrats to Paul Pierce for surpassing 23,000 career points last night. Pierce now ranks 25th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. The Truth could climb as high as 20 by the end of the season. He’s some 700 points behind Charles Barkley.

For those curious, Carlisle averaged 2.2 points, 1.0 assists and 0.8 rebounds per game from 1984 – 1987.
