Enemy Talk: Q & A with UK Blogger

This Gamecocks Blog recently traded some questions and answers with a Kentucky Wildcats blogger on the up coming game.

The blog is Anything But Gatorade, they cover UK and Vandy and please visit them for insight on those teams.

For my answers to his questions, read HERE .

Below are his answers to my questions dealing with the UK Wildcats…

1.  With basketball starting this weekend, are the UK fans paying attention to this football game in Lexington?

I think they are, yes.  Obviously, Kentucky fans look forward to the first basketball practice every year, and it’s gotten to be a huge production and very exciting.  But the football game is very important, and I guarantee the Cocks are going to be playing before a packed and pretty noisy house Saturday night.

2.  I know it is early but what is the early impressions of UK football under Coach Joker Phillips?

Despite Rich Brooks’s SEC win/loss record, Joker has a lot to live up to.  He’ll probably get the same three year leash most coaches get, but he hasn’t put together results that the fanbase is enamored with just yet.  The offense looks very good, and that’s his forte, but the defense is awful.  That’s not to say he and DC Steve Brown had a bunch of blue chippers to work with, but they’re getting steamrolled out there and Joker’s getting a lot of heat for that.  I think he’s produced about as well as could be expected thus far, though, even if we should have won at Ole Miss.

3.  Name two players on USC’s roster you would want on the UK roster.

I’m sure you’re expecting me to say Alshon Jeffrey or Marcus Lattimore, but I’m pretty content with the Kentucky offense.  The guys I’d want are probably Josh Dickerson and Melvin Ingram because our line and linebackers could really use some help.

4.  Randall Cobb does everything except drive the team bus.  How special is he for UK?

He’s the best football player Kentucky has ever seen.  He can do everything.  He makes plays I haven’t even seen pros make.  There was a one handed grab he made over the middle while horizontal with the ground in the Louisville game this year that was the most unbelievable catch I’ve ever witnessed.  He is the team leader, to boot.  Really, really amazing athlete and it’s hard for me to believe he’s on our team.

5.  Give me the bluegrass truth and tell me who will win the USC-UK game with a score prediction.

Let me get a few things out of my system first.  One: I hate Steve Spurrier.  We’ve never beaten a team he’s coached.  Sure, he says Saturday’s game is the most important or the biggest game Carolina’s ever played, but given his generally flippant attitude toward the Cats, I’m not sure he really believes that.  Basically, he’s a dick.  And I’m sure Cocks fans love him for that.

I’m a little half and half about the game.  Kentucky can score on anyone except maybe Florida.  Carolina’s got a very good running game, which is hard for Kentucky to defend.  Let’s face it, any kind of offense is hard for Kentucky to defend.  I do think we match up better with the Cocks than any other SEC team we’ve played so far, but if Carolina’s good enough to beat the Tide, they’re probably more than good enough to beat the Cats.  That being said, if it’s a shootout, Kentucky’s got a pretty good chance to win.

Carolina 32, Kentucky 28.  Sigh.
