If you are one of those people who loves Game Of Thrones, but are unable to watch because HBO isn’t in your cable package, then good news is on the horizon.
The network has announced that HBO GO, once reserved only for HBO cable subscribers, will become a standalone streaming service beginning in 2015.
HBO chairman, Richard Plepler announced the new opportunity at the Time Warner Inc. investor meeting, and showed optimism with the company’s new approach to video streaming.
“That is a large and growing opportunity that should no longer be left untapped, It is time to remove all barriers to those who want HBO. So, in 2015, we will launch a stand-alone, over-the-top, HBO service in the United States. We will work with our current partners. And, we will explore models with new partners. All in, there are 80 million homes that do not have HBO and we will use all means at our disposal to go after them.”
HBO will face stiff competition from services such as Netflix, which have been relying heavily on original programming. With the vast assortment of shows and movies available, HBO will look to not only match the quality of its competitors but surpass them as well.
