Entertainment: The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies Rakes In $117.6 In Global Box Office Takings

Peter Jackson’s journey through Middle earth comes to it’s conclusion with the movie The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. And while it doesn’t open in U.S. theaters until tonight, it’s already been showing in theaters abroad.

According to The Guardian U.K., the movie has already produced an impressive $117.6 million in weekend box office earnings in overseas markets. That total represents 38 countries that showed it over the weekend averaging out to $3.1 million per country. Comparatively Desolation of Smaug took in $135.4 million opening in 49 countries and averaging $2.8 million per country.

Overall, Desolation of Smaug tallied up global box office takings in excess of $954 million, and An Unexpected Journey brought in over $1 billion.

The Battle of the Five Armies scored over $13 million in four countries:

Germany – $!9.5 million

U.K. -$15.2 million

France – $14.5 million

Russia – $13.4 million

That $19.5 million made it the No. 1 movie in Germany this past weekend, and the $13.4 million earned are the largest opening numbers of any Warner Bros. title shown in Russian theaters to date.
