Hello, my name is Katie and starting today I will be coming to your screens with a weekly dose of Entertainment Roundup. I am obsessed with a wide range of TV, movies, and pop culture. Each week I will review and share my thoughts on a different topic.
This week I’m talking about ABC show Scandal which is on Thursday nights. Scandal is an one-hour drama that focuses on Olivia Pope and her ‘fix-it’ company. Olivia and her crew are like a super PR agency that not only spins the negatives of their clients, but fixes it in the process. This occurs in Washington DC, where she is also heavily connected to the President.
Olivia and her Crew
Is it just me or do you love the diversity and dynamic of Olivia’s crew? Obviously, that’s what makes the show, but even after two seasons, new back stories and situations are coming out. What keeps the audience guessing is that we have no idea what Olivia’s end game is. She wants to help people (sometimes horribly bad people) through her business, but she is also dying to be back in the political mix with the POTUS. Her love life is in shambles and now we know that the president both hates her and is dying to know her every move. Did he really need to bug her house and go all creepy big brother?
Olivia’s crew at Pope Associates are my favorite cast of characters since LOST. They are equally hilarious and mind boggling. The character development on Scandal is so superb that every character that’s introduced has extreme complexity. I was surprised that the show was able to keep up the level of shock and suspense from the first season.
The President and his family
Millie and the president have a complex relationship that fluctuates frequently. This is definitely not an honest family. One thing that concerns me however is ‘Where are the children?’ According to Season 1 introductions, the president and Millie have young children and now have a new baby. I understand that the focus isn’t on the president’s family AT ALL, but they are no where to be found. For example, the children didn’t even visit their father in the hospital on his death bed. Also, the president must have some great nannies because even the newborn baby that was such a focus before he was born is gone. The baby is never around while his mother is scheming new ways to fix the country.
All in all though, I love the show Scandal. It’s thrilling and I would recommend it to anyone who loves suspense and isn’t too squeamish. Even though this isn’t a show that you can jump into in the middle of Season 2, you’re not far behind. The story lines will suck you in beginning with the pilot and you’ll be caught up before you know it.
